Test for Glucose

Benedict's Reagent

1) Add Benedict's reagent to a sample and heat it without boiling

2) If the test is positive it will form a COLOURED PRECIPITATE

3) The colour of the precipitate changes from blue to green to yellow to orange to brick red

4) The higher the concentration of glucose the further the colour change goes

Test for Starch

Iodine

1) Add iodine solution to the sample

2) If starch is present, the sample changes from browny-orange to bluey-black

3) If there is no starch present, it remains browny-orange
