Test for starch and glucose


Use: Spotting tile, iodine solution

The iodine reacts with the starch, forming a blue black colour


Use: Bunsen burner, Benedict's solution, water

Glucose is dissolved in a little water, and enough Benedict's solution is added to turn the mixture blue. Then the mixture is boiled. After a few seconds the blue solution changes colour forming a red or orange colour.
