How the nature of discipleship is shown in the sending out of the Twelve (6:7-13) and how it affects ideas about Christians living today

When Jesus sent out the twelve two by two he gave them authority over evil spirits and to bring only a walking stick. He told them to stay wherever they are welcomed and to shake the dust of their feet wherever they are not. The disciples preached that people should turn away from their sins and helped the sick.

  • They are in pairs for safety and support
  • They should not force the message on anyone but accept any hospitality offered
  • Possessions are not needed only God's trust is needed to provide
  • They called people to repent

Discipleship today

  • It teaches us that we should preach the word, and work as a player
  • We must be 100% committed and trust in God
  • Fight against injustice
  • Heal/comfort the sick
