Stage 1 – fast component / alactacid
- Takes 2-4 mins
- Stage 1 begins as soon as exercise stops
- Replenish ATP stores
- Replenish phosphate/PC stores
- Reload (oxy)myoglobin / (oxy)haemoglobin
Stage 2/slow component/lactacid
- May take several hours
- Elevated levels of oxygen consumption to facilitate/aid recovery
- General removal of lactic acid
- Conversion of lactic acid to glygogen
- Glygogen replenishment/carbohydrate replenishment
