Diet

Diet must provide macronutrients (proteins, carbohydarates, lipids), micronutrients (vitamins and minerals), water and fibre.

  • Macronutrients are the building blocks of the body.
  • Micronutrients are important for the proper functioning of our body's mechanisms.
  • Water is essential as it is a solvent for all the biochemical reactions in our body, it's used in hydrolysis of many products in the body and it keeps osmotic pressures in the required equilibrium.
  • Fibre is good for the digestive system altough it cannot be absorbed by the blood.

Malnutrition is caused when there is lack of one or more nutrients, or when there are not in the right quantities

Everyone need some amount of nutrients but individual people need different amounts and proportions of energy and nutrients (deoending on weight sex, level of activity climate. also being pregnant/lactating or fighting infection)
