Basingstoke Transect 1

Central Business District (CBD)- Festival Place

Old Inner City- Sarum Hill

Small, older terraced housing from the late 19th century

Privately rented, good for recent migrants and students due to closeness to CBD and access to public transport. Bad for families due to no space for parking cars, small back gardens and n front gardens.

Passing traffic -> noise and air pollution which affects QoL

Basingstoke Transect 2

Suburban Social Housing- Buckskin

Area built during the 1960's by the council for the London Overspill Policy.

Majority are still rented from housing associations.

Houses vary in size from small flats to terraced blosks (3-4 beds) which is good for families

Each housing estate contains at least:

  • A shopping parade
  • A secondary school
  • Several primary schools
  • Buckskin has good public transport to CBD

(Good facilities that raise QoL)

High density, lack of personal space and lack of choice

Basingstoke Transect 3

Rural Urban Fringe- Worting Village

Large, expensive, privately owned houses. Built around 18th-20th century.

Peaceful and quiet, and open space -> good QoL.

However, no facilities are nearby other than a church (one fortnightly service). Non-car owners would suffer (elderly and teenagers, so they are negatively affected)
