Types of family

  • Nuclear family (when parents live with their children).
  • Extended family (when grandparents and other family live near by).
  • Step family (when one parent re-marries and the children then live with them).
  • Single parent family (when only one parent looks after the children).
  • Shared care family (when the mother and father have split up and the child lives between both houses).
  • Adoptive family (when a child lives in a care home and gets adopted by new parents).

  • Natural family planning (planning around your menstrual cycle, its not reliable).
  • Withdrawl method (removing the penis before sperm is released, its not reliable).
  • Absention (saying no to sex, its 100% reliable).
  • The morning after pill (taken 72 hours after unprotected sex).
  • Male condom (a method worn by the male to catch sperm, its only 98% effective).
  • Diaphragm (a plastic cap placed in the cervix, its only 92%-96% effective).
  • IUD (a plastic device which releases copper into the uterus which stops sperm being able to fertalize, its only 99% effective).
  • Combined pill (contains oestrogen and progestogen, its 100% effective).
  • Contraceptive implant (slowly releases progestrogen, its 99% effective).

  • Tetis (produces sperm and testosterone).
  • Scrotum (bag of skin containing two testis).
  • Sperm duct (sperm travels through this from the testes to the uretha).
  • Prostate gland and seminal vesicles (adds fluids to the sperm to form semen).
  • Uretha (this tube transports semen and urine out of the body.
  • Penis (varies in length depending on different males).
  • Foreskin (covers and protects the end of the penis).

Female reproductive system

  • Uterus (a pear-shaped organ the size of a clenched fist,it increased from 30g to 1kg in weight during pregnancy).
  • Lining of the uterus (comes away during mensturation if an fertalized egg hasnt been implanted).
  • Funnel (catches the released ova and sends it to the fallopian tube).
  • Ovaries (there are two ovaries, they release eggs monthly).
  • Vagina (10-12cm long and leads from the outside of the body to the cervix).
  • Cervix (a strong ring of muscle at the neck of the uterus with a small opening to let menstrual blood out).

  • Stop smoking.
  • Not drinking alcohol.
  • Not taking recreational drugs.
  • Check for STI'S.
  • Eat a healthy diet.
  • Excercise.
  • Have medical conditions under control.
