Adoption

Advantages

  • It gives the adopters a family and joy.
  • It gives children who have little stability and no family a chance to enjoy a good home life.
  • It ensures children are not sent from one children's home or foster carer to another.
  • It gives the children a real sense of belonging.
  • There is less of a burden on state resources

Disadvantages

Evaluation

Adoption is a legal procedure where all the responsibilities of the child's 'birth parents' are transferred to the adopters. It provides a permanent new family for children whose own parents can't bring them up. Once a child is adopted all legal ties with the birth parent are broken.
