One Parent Family

Advantages

It may be better to be out of an unhappy relationship.
The children may be less traumatised.
The parent may be happier and more relaxed on their own.
The parents may find a new partner.
The parents may be in a good position financially.
The atmosphere at home may be happier.

Disadvantages

The child may be lacking a mother/father figure.
The children may grow up with problems associated with having one parent.
One parent may find it considerably harder to support the family financially, emotionally and physically.
The other parent is not readily available to share worries.
The child misses contact with the other parent.

Evaluation

One parent living with a child or children. The other parent may share responsibility for the children but this can vary. Some parents look after the child without any contact from the other parent.
