Effect of Each Food Group

Carbohydrates, proteins and fats release the energy needed to live and make new cells

Vitamins and minerals make your body work healthily

Without them you will suffer deficiency diseases

Without a balanced diet, you will end up malnourished

If we take in too much energy, our diet can become unbalanced. Too much food/energy = weight gain and too little food/energy = weight loss

A male uses more energy than a female on average so he needs more food

The amount of work you do is normally directly proportional to the energy you need.

Food supplies chemical energy to your mucsles as you work.

The more exercise you do, the more energy you need.

Keeping your body temp constant uses energy

The Metabolic Rate

Metabolic Rate means the rate of chemical reactions that take place in your body.

Metabolic Rate varies depending on age, size, gender and environmental factors

The proportion of muscle to fat affects your metabolic rate

Your metabolic rate can be changed by the amount of exercise you do.
