· The independent variable is what the experimenter is
· The dependant variable is what the experimenter is
recording/ measuring
· In order to make sure that it is the IV that causes the change
in the DV- there must be a control on extraneous variables
· These are the variables a part from independent variables
that may cause an effect on the dependant variable
· if an experimenter fails to control such extraneous variables
there results will be meaningless
· Because the change in the DV was not due to the IV .
