System Any activity which involves input, processing and output

ICT System A system (input, processing, output) which uses any form of digital technology and
where the output from the system goes directly to a human being or another ICT system
Data Raw facts and figures (Text, digital pictures, digital videos and sound)
Hardware All physical components of a computer system
Software Computer programs, made up of 1000's of instructions
Information Data processed or converted to provide meaning
Procedure Tasks undertaken to ensure smooth running of the system
People The users that enter data, carry out procedures, read the output

Information
Direct Data Direct data capture is the collection of data for a particular purpose
Indirect Data Indirect data capture is the collection of data as a by-product from another purpose
Encoding Putting the data into an appropriate binary code so that the computer can understand it.
(ASCII - 0s' and 1s')
Coding A code is used to represent the data to allow processing to be more effective and to
produce more useful information (e.g. M or F)
Bitmap An image is made up of squares called pixels
-It can be difficult to edit and distortion can occur if enlarged
Vector graphics Stores the image in terms of geometric data
-Enables easy editing and doesn't distort easily
Quality of information - Accurate
- Up to date
- Relevant
- Complete
- Understandable
- Timely

effects the level of system they could cope with
