First 138 words of the document:

Adding and Subtracting Fractions
Adding:
1 5
22 +1 7
To make it easier, add the whole numbers and then the fractions
1 5
=2+1+ 2 + 7
1 5
=3+ 2 + 7
Then you need to find a common factor so that both the "bottom"
numbers are the same. 2 and 7 both go into 14 (2x7=14 & 7x2+14).
You need to do the same to the top as you did to the bottom (1
need to be multiplied by 7 and 5 by 2)
7 10
=3+ 14 + 14
Then you just need to add the 7 and 10 because the "bottom"
numbers are the same
17
=3+ 14
Because this fraction is "top heavy" it becomes
3
4 14
Subtracting:
1 1
43 -12
When subtracting mixed fractions convert them into "top heavy"
fractions to make it easier

Here's a taster:

You need to find a common factor for the two "bottom" numbers, in
this case 3 and 2 both go into 6, as 3x2=6, 13 must be multiplied by
2 and as 2x3=6, 3 must be multiplied by 3.
= 26
6 -
9
6
= 17
2
And then because it's still "top heavy" you put it back into a mixed
fraction.…read more
