Random Sampling

Advantages

  • unbiased
  • EV and CV are evenly distributed between groups
  • high internal validity

Disadvantages

  • sampling frame needed
  • time consuming
  • chance of freak sample - unrepresentative of target population
  • selected participants may not give consent

Evaluation

all members of target population have an equal chance of being selected. sampling frame + lottery methods
