Advantages
- The size of the sample and its focus on being representative is a strength, and means it can be generalised.
- The researchers gathered data using a variety of methods, which means they could use triangulation to check the reliability of the data (comparing results from different methods).
- They collected cortisol 6 times which could increase reliability.

Disadvantages
- Hard to show cause-and-effect relationships between the variables as they were difficult to measure.
- For example, it was hard to measure attention to frustration and hard to relate to later aggressive behaviour.
- Inferring genetic influence from looking at birth mother and child similarities is not the same thing as using DNA to show genotype.
- The findings of the DNA analysis were not reported.
