Laissez-Faire

Advantages

  • Employees may feel empowered in their job roles as they are more independant and don't have to rely on their supervisor for everything.
  • There is a relaxed atmosphere in the workspace as employees are not being ordered around for every task.
  • For more skilled employees, this type of leadership will allow them to be more creative which will benefit the business as it can increases productivity and revenue, and therefore also increase profit.

Disadvantages

  • Because employees are not being supervised as closely, there can be less consistency and productivity which can cause business revneue and profit to decrease.
  • Employees may feel unrecognised for their hard work as they are left to do their tasks alone, which can lead to demotivation in the workplace.

Evaluation

A laissez-faire leadership style is only useful in a workplace where employees are highly skilled and productive, as otherwise there could be a decrease in business productivity, which can impact business revenue and profit.
