Craik and Lockhart

  • Demand Characteristic - the participants didn't know the aim, increased validity.
  • Reliability - same conditions used, tested individually, same word list, randomly selected words.
  • Ecological Validity - tested general memory.
  • Application - helps students study methods.
  • Methods - repeated measures used, participant variables, mixed up words.

  • Ethics - participants deceived, wrong aim told (reaction test).
  • Ecological Validity - held in a lab using unusual isolated questions, unnatural experiment.
  • Methods - suffered order effects, participants become bored towards end.
  • Sample - only 24 participants.

The experiment proved the aim to be correct however it had some weaknesses which would need to be changed if the experiment is to have increased validity.
