Advantages and Disadvantages of the NEW TOWN SITE (including Airport Site)

Advantages

  • "Eco-Town"- focused on Environmental Sustainability, charging points for electric cars, renewable energy
  • Only 32% used for housing- large area of green space for leisure activities- more ENVIRONMENTALLY sustainable.
  • 15,000 homes built, 4,500 starter homes- good for first time buyers/young people/people who haven't yet got onto the property ladder
  • 14,000 new jobs- people who move to the area can take the jobs, not only the people living there but also people in other villages and settlements such as Little Stretton and Stoughton.
  • Footpaths and cycle paths- move away from domination of the car as a mean of transport- environmentally and socially sustainble, reduce carbon emissions and congestion
  • Services (leisure, schools, shops, health facilities) will attract people to the area

Disadvantages

  • Flying club will have to be relocated, may upset the members of the club who may have to travel further to get to the Airport
  • The area may become overpopulated if there are lots of people moving in
  • Services may become overwhelmed if there are too many people using them
  • Congestion on the Gartree Road if more people moved in because it is the main road going through this area
  • Existing residents of local villages may be disturbed (residents in Stoughton) by construction work
