  • The Ten Commandments
    • 1) I am the  Lord your God you shall not have other Gods before me
      • Jesus said, "No servant can worship two masters" (Luke)
      • Now people worship superstition, magic, money power and sex
      • God saved the people so he should be worshipped, not other Gods
    • 2) You shall not take the Lords name in vain
      • Respect for God's name is shown by blessing and praising it
      • Using God's name in blasphemy or curses is wrong. Jesus said "Do not swear at all" (Matt)
      • Promises made in the name of God should be kept, otherwise it's trivial
    • 3) Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy
      • "The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath" (Mark)
      • Sunday is kept holy by celebrating mass, praying and the Holy Communion
      • It creates time for: family, health, leisure, caring for the sick and the old
    • 4) Honour you mother and father
      • Parents should be honoured and respected as they educate children in faith and live
      • Children owe respect, obedience and gratitude tot their parents to support family life
      • Older children should care for their parents in times of illness and old age
    • 5) You shall not kill
      • Christians must respect human life
      • "Killing threatens peace and Christians are called to be peacemakers" (Matt)
      • This forbids: murder, abortion, euthanasia and suicide
      • Killing is allowedto defend life even if tht means killing the attacker
      • Execution by the state of a criminal should not be needed except when imprisonment cannot help the threat to others
    • 6) You shall not commit adultery
      • Adultery involves cheating on someone and breaking marriage vows
      • This includes all sins against chastity: prostitution, *********** or ****. All which undermine the dignity of a person
      • "Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matt)
      • "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak" (Matt)
    • 7) You shall not steal
      • Stealing shows a lack of respects for the work and effort of others
      • Christians must respect both the fair distribution of wealth and the ownership of private property
      • Theft includes: unjust wages, corruption and damaging things held in common
      • Christians must not force people to work in harsh or undignified conditions
    • 8) You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour
      • Christians must live truthfully
      • This forbids perjury, lying, slander, defamation and malicious spreading
      • It undermines trust friendship and the community
    • 9) You shall not covet your neighbours wife
      • Linked tot he sixth commanment
      • Such thought could lead to the commandment being broken due to disloyalty and a lack of respect
      • Christians must seek a pure heart and modesty to protect and respect s humans dignity
    • 10 )You shall not covet your neighbours possessions
      • Greed envy and unbridled covetousness must be avoided
      • It's wrong to try to get as much as possible and live a life only for material goods
