- Helped found the South Africa Students Organisation.
- Founded the Black consciousness Movement in mid 1968.
- He was a key figure in resistance in Durban.
- Helped raise awareness amongst the students - a new education who were being educated and were rebelious.
- He was openly defiant to the authorities.
- He was kicked out of University.
- He was banned by the apartheid systen in 1973.
- He was killed whilst in police custody in 1977 after being subject to 22 hours of torture.
- This caused outrage both in South Africa and on an international scale, making him a martyr.
