  • Steve Biko
    • Helped found the South Africa Students Organisation.
    • Founded the Black consciousness Movement in mid 1968.
    • He was a key figure in resistance in Durban.
    • Helped raise awareness amongst the students - a new education who were being educated and were rebelious.
    • He was openly defiant to the authorities.
    • He was kicked out of University.
    • He was banned by the apartheid systen in 1973.
    • He was killed whilst in police custody in 1977 after being subject to 22 hours of torture.
      • This caused outrage both in South Africa and on an international scale, making him a martyr.
