  • Social Revolution in Germany
    • Minorities
      • The idea of the volk meant from 1871 gypsies, Jews and poles were not regarded as equal, especially with traditional elites
        • Nazi policy was based on existing prejudices,  not a social revolution because the the view were not formed on Nazis, they were the first to act on it
      • 1/3 of all married Jews were married to non-jews in 1915 but 1935 the Nuremberg laws made this illegal
      • in 1934 there was a compulsory sterilization programme based on the judgment of the hereditary health court. meant for defects but extended to Jews, roma and sinti,criminals and black people- this was taught in schools. 400,00 people sterilized between 1934 and 1945
      • A yellow star was displayed on Jews and their businesses, Propaganda urged separation and violence e.g kristalnacht in 1938
      • First ghetto was set up in 1939. they were deliberately dire to further dehumanize/ strength through joy took trips through the lodz ghetto, proving maltreatment was conscious and wanted by all Germans
    • Workers
      • In 1934 Germany failed to pay US debts and trade collapsed. Trade was now made with countries such as Hungary. They announced the first four year plan in 1933 with the aim of achieving autarky
      • depression hit its lowest point and had turned around- means it was circumstances allowed impact
      • The Nazis manipulated the statistics e.g Jew who were no longer part of the workforce and women who were discouraged from work.- not a social revolution as there s no solid statistics, ad baf unemployment like the rest of Europe.
      • Buildinng the autobhans attempted to end unemployment but did not build as many roads as intended. between 1933/1935 the max of workers was 84,000
      • Richard darre set up the reich food estate to regulate food production as well as setting prices. Could fine people up to 100,000 RM for not confromin- unpopular with some farmers In 1928, german farers 68% of all farm produce but by 1934, this was 80%
      • by 1939 the nazis had tight command of the economy, but lots of tge command econmy targets weerre unrealistic. by 1938/9 it was still importing 17% of agriclutural needs.
      • Propaganda persuaded people to eat fish not meat. worked as jam consumption trebled between 1928 and 1938
      • for conformists living standards improved under the Nazis e.g. real ages rose. Strength through Joy provided extras like medical care and the chance of Volkswagen- not readily  available
