      • prizes and rewards w/ scores
      • scores rigged to keep tension high
      • orchestrated situations that would be frustrating
      • stereotypes between groups recorded
    • Integration Phase

      • conflict resolution
      • mere contact in group dinners failed - food fight
      • superordinate goals
        • fixing water tank that gave water to both groups
        • starting broken down camp bus
        • joint campover as had to work together for food and sleeping gear
    • Results
      • boys needed little encouragement to be competitive
      • aggressive behaviour between boys
        • eagles burned rattlers flag
        • rattler night raid to eagles
        • eagles won tournament but rattlers stole prizes
      • originally eagles had 6.4% friendships w/ outgroup but had 36.4% at end
      • each superordinate goal reduced hostility
      • RCT supported, leaders est quickly, mere contact does not reduce hostility
