    • Miles
      • Was at boarding school until he was sent sent home not to return.
        • Reason for is expulsion is ambiguous. All we know is that it involved him talking to the other boys at the school.
      • Wants to be seen as 'bad'
        • Goes outside in the middle of the night
        • Could jut be a sign of him growing up and wanting to rebel
        • Governess believe's this is Quint corrupting him
      • Knows his class and that the Governess is of a lower class
        • Reinforced when he calls the Governess 'My dear'
        • Miles tells the Governess 'I want my own sort'
        • Marxists believe Miles is finding his class and enforcing it
      • There are suggestions that the Governess see Miles as a substitute for his uncle
        • Freud - supported by the Governess' excessive affection
          • Often kisses and embraces him
      • His death
        • Governess may have smothered him to death
        • Could have died from seeing the ghost (Quint)
          • He was possessed but by vanquishing Quint it also killed him
          • Shock
    • Flora
      • Mrs Grose  told the Governess that Flora had been saying bad things
        • The governess believes that this is because Flora is being corrupted and/or possessed by Mrs Jessel
        • Could just be that Flora heard Miles say something and she just repeated it
      • Flora runs off to the lake and hides the boat she uses
        • When  the Governess finds Flora, Flora behaves as if nothing is wrong
          • The Governess can't control herself and demands to know where Miss Jessel is
            • Flora then freaks out in response, either because she is scared of the Governess or because she is trying to act as if she knows nothing
              • Flora becomes very upset sating she hasn't saw anyone and wants to be away from the Governess
                • After this event Flora becomes increasingly ill
                  • The Governess believes that it is Miss Jessel trying to possess her.
      • The Governess first become suspicious of Flora when she finds her awake late at night looking out of the window
    • They are siblings
      • Orphaned, looked after by a Governess and various servants in the Essex manor 'Bly' Their uncle sent them to
      • Flora is eight years old whilst Miles is ten years old
      • Governess sees both of them as idyllic children at first but quickly becomes suspicious of their ever move
  • Both a higher class than any of the other residents at Bly
    • They are siblings
      • Orphaned, looked after by a Governess and various servants in the Essex manor 'Bly' Their uncle sent them to
