- Americans saw themselves as pioneers
- So far the story is being told as a positive story
- They also believe that wealth which allowed the new nation to expand.
- Was created of the backs of the enslaved men and women who fuelled Americans booming cotton factories/plantations
- The history of America is the story of movement, feet-tramping from place-place and people out to build a new future.
- England's colonies in North America. Lived in only the East, the lands between the Atlantic Ocean and the system of Mountain Ranges.
- The mountains together with French and Spanish lands in the South and West, made a natural barrier to any movements Westwards.
- In the 1770's a few family's disobeyed and made there way to settle one these lands.
- 1789 the colonists had thrown off British rule and set up there Government.
- To make land, Indians was forcibly removed from their homes.
- Much land was taken through direct conflict with the Indian Tribes already living there.
- Moving out to settle and tame a continent.
- Brining trade and helping to make the land useful.
- Americans went to claim land for their new nation.
- To spread the Christian religion ands to bring freedom to all.
- Other land was acquired from the Spanish in the South, the French in the West and the British in the North.
- It was the story of pain and suffering.
- Historians have challenged the idea that the growth of America was entirely positive.
- They point out that the expansion of America was brought at great costs.
- To make Indians was forcibly removed from their homes.

- 1789-1838 United States expanded rapidly, claiming land and forming new states and territories.
- 1838 it grew to cover nearly half of the continent of North America.
