- Factors affecting reaction time
- Hick's law
- the more choices there are, the slower the reaction time is
- Spatial anticipation
- performer programmes a pattern of movement prior to movement needed
- Temporal anticipation
- when the performer predicts what is going to happen
- Psychological refractory period
- the delay in response to the second of two closely spaced stimuli
- PRP is used in sports by performers who 'dummy' or 'fake' their opponents
- opponent perceives signals form the 'fake' - begins to initiate a response to these signals to block you
- meanwhile performer starts to move the other way which opponent can't immediately respond to (single channel hypothesis)
- single channel hypothesis - must complete response to 1st signal before that can attend 2nd
- Hick's law
