  • Early Phonological Errors
    • Substitution
      • Substituting one sound for another (especially the "harder" sounds that develop later)
      • 'pip' for 'ship'
    • Deletion
      • 'do(g)' or 'cu(p)'
      • Omitting the final consonant in words
    • Addition
      • e.g. 'doggie'
      • Adding an extra vowel sound to the ends of words, creating a CVCV pattern
    • Assimilation
      • 'gog' for 'dog'
      • Changing one consonant or vowel for another (as in the early plosive sounds 'd' and 'b')
    • Deletion of unstressed syllables
      • 'nana' for 'banana'
      • Omitting the opening syllable on polysyllabic words
    • Consonant cluster reductions
      • Consonant clusters can be difficult to articulate, so children reduce them to smaller units
      • 'pider' for 'spider'
    • Reduplication
      • 'dada', 'mama'
      • Repeating a whole syllable
