- this meant that divorce could be obtained on the grounds of a 'marital offence', however it was still extremely sexist because woman had to have visual objective evidence.
- 1937- Marital offences
- divorce could now be obtained on the grounds of insanity, desertion and cruelty
- 1949- Legal aid act
- before 1949 it was extremely expensive to get a divorce, however after this date the government provided free help which made it available for all classes to get a divorce
- 1969- Divorce reform act
- you no longer needed proof for a divorce but could claim that it was in a state of 'irretrievable damage'
