    • Social norms are the rules that a society has about how people should think or behave
    • These rules may be:
      • Explicit: Set down as codes of conduct/law
      • Implicit: "understood" but not fully stated (e.g. not talking to yourself really loud in public)
    • Abnormal behavior can therefore be regarded as anything that deviates from the social norm
