    • Diastolic pressure
      • pressure of the relaxed heart
    • Systolic pressure
      • pressure of heart contracting
      • as the blood leaves the heart and flows through the main arteries - it has a high systolic pressure
        • this blood pressure reduces as blood moves further and further away from the heart
      • friction of blood against the blood vessel walls reduces the pressure of blood
    • Velocity
      • velocity of blood reduces as blood flows away from the heart
        • however, the blood speeds up as it enters the venules and veins
      • blood flows fastest in the large arteries, slower in small arterioles and veins, slowest in capillaries
