  • B1: Diet and Exercise
    • Blood pressure
      • Systolic - maximum pressure the heart produces
        • measured in mmHg
      • Diastolic - pressure between the heart beats
        • measured in mmHg
      • high pressure
        • can cause a stroke, and damage to kidneys
        • stressful lifestyle
          • increase of heart disese
            • smoking

                  • increase of heart disese
                    • smoking
                      • Carbon monoxide decrease haemoglobin ability to carry oxygen
                    • saturated fat
                      • build up of cholesterol in arteries (plaque)
                        • the narrowing of arteries is caused by the plaque in the coronary arteries.
                          • blood clots or thrombosis more likely to occur
                    • salt

                    • blood clots or thrombosis more likely to occur
              • salt
          • low pressure
            • can cause dizziness, fainting and poor circulation
            • serious medical illness
            • everyday factors - eaten recently, time of day etc..
            • injury
            • genetics
        • Health
          • being free from disease
        • Fitness
          • the ability to do exercise
          • cardio
            • strength
              • flexibility
                • stamina
                  • agility
                    • speed
        • Body mass index
          • Used to indicate if you're over or underweight.
            • 30 + obese
            • 20 - 25 normal
            • >20 underweight
          • BMI = mass(kg) / (height (M) ) squared
        • EAR
          • depends on age, pregnancy, lactation
            • Daily requirement of protein
              • EAR = 0.6 X body mass(kg)
              • lack of protein can lead to defiency called KWASHIORKOR
        • Diet
          • Main componats of healthy diet
            • carbohydrate
              • made up of simple sugars such as glucose
                • stored in the liver as glycogen or converted into fats
                • starch is complex carbohydrate
            • protein
              • made up of Amino Acids
                • cannot be stored in the body
                  • FIRST CLASS
                    • sourced from animals - meat and fish
                      • contain all essential amino acids that cannot be made by human body
                  • SECOND CLASS
                    • made by plants - pulses and lentils
                      • do not contain essential amino acids
                  • however body can convert between amino acids
              • EAR
                • depends on age, pregnancy, lactation
                  • Daily requirement of protein

            • fat
              • made up of fatty acid and glycerol
                • stored under skin and around organs
                  • stored as ADIPOSE TISSUE
