        • disadvantages
          • doesn't help development in long term
          • relies on charities & donations > donor fatigue (don't commit)
        • advantages

          • once crisis is over - aid is withdrawn > no dependence
      • not appropriate technology - not suited to environment it's placed in
      • bilateral aid - 2 countries
        • often tied aid
      • multilateral aid - many countries through organisation (e.g. United Nations)

      • disadvantages
        • not immediate solution
        • relies on donations & charity
        • bad conditions & long distance transport for animals
    • sustainable > benefits future generations
    • E.G. Pergau Dam - UK & Malaysia
      • tied aid
      • had impacts on locals - had to be rehoused / lost access to river water
      • involved governments not local poor people in need
      • produced hydroelectric power
