Explain four consequences of spectator violence, for example hooliganism, for the clubs and the sporting authorities. (4)
Negative image of sport causes decline in numbers. Number of spectators goes down. Supporters banned from travelling/attending. Games behind closed doors. All fans treated like hooligans. Teams banned/lose of points/fines. Sponsors pull out.

Win ethic, use violence to ensure win. Importance of match e.g. derby game. Nature of the sport already involves lots of contact. Over arousal caused by big game or close match. Frustration e.g. of refs decisions.

Olympics only once every 4 years so less rivalry developed. Crowds from many countries all at once so less intense. Olympic ideal promoted/tradition. Less media hype winding up crowd. Family orientated event. No alcohol/drug culture.

Explain 4 strategies for preventing player violence in sport (4)
Having additional officials. Video match assistance (TMO). Applying tougher sanctions. Training officials better to deal with situations. Increasing education campaigns for long term improvement.

Ban or control of alcohol/drugs. Use of police intelligence. Increased deterrents (bans/fines etc). CCTV for identification/eject/arrest. All seater stadiums and fan segregation.Promotion of family zones.
