Types of Waves

?
What are the two types of waves?
Longitude Waves and Transverse Waves
1 of 16
Describe longitudinal waves.
Contains compressions and rarefractions. Parallel to direction of travel. They have wavelengths and amplitudes.
2 of 16
What is a wavelength?
The distance from one corresponding point to another.
3 of 16
What is the amplitude?
The size of a vibration. The amount of energy waves can carry.
4 of 16
Describe transverse waves?
They can travel through a vaccum. Perpendicular to the direction of travel.
5 of 16
What is the time period?
The time taken to complete one wave.
6 of 16
What is the frequency?
The number of waves per second.
7 of 16
What is the wave length?
The distance between two identical points on a wave.
8 of 16
What is the wave speed?
The distance a wave travels in one second.
9 of 16
What is the amplitude?
The maximum displacement from the zero line.
10 of 16
How do you calculate wave speed?
frequency x wave length
11 of 16
What is frequency measured in?
Herts (Hz)
12 of 16
What is wave speed measured in?
Metres per seconds (m/s)
13 of 16
What is wave length measured in?
Metres (m)
14 of 16
What happens if frequency is high?
Pitch is also high.
15 of 16
What happens if amplitude is high?
Volume is high.
