What is Multimedia?
Multimedia means the use if many different types of media such as text, audio, still images, animation, video and different types of interactivity

-Many people now spend more time on their computer that they do watching the TV -Use social networking sites, chat rooms, online auctions, watching videos on YouTube, etc. -There has been a huge change in the way people access music and films

-Most businesses use multimedia in their websites to promote their business -Use a full range of multimedia features to advertise their goods or services -Use multimedia in presentations given to customers -Adverts on the WWW

-Flexibility to access information in different forms -Interactivity whilst using the material -Integration of material from many different sources -Draws attention to particular material

Larger memory will mean: - Applications run faster -More apps are able to run at the same time -You are able to move quickly between apps

-Bit (smallest unit of measurement) -Byte (8 bits) -Kilobytes, KB (1000 bytes) -Megabyte, MB (1000 kilobytes) -Gigabyte, GB (1000 megabytes) -Terabyte, TB (1000 gigabytes)

-LCD/Plasma screen -Mouse -Graphics tablet -Touch-sensitive input devices -Microphone -Digital Camera

-Magnetic hard drives (fixed or portable) -Optical disks (e.g. CD-ROM, DVD) -Flash drives (pen drives, memory sticks, etc) -Memory cards

Advantages in using Multimedia Software
-Offers interaction with the user -Offers different ways of presenting information -Can suit different learning styles -It enables learning through exploration, discovery and experience

Disadvantages in using Multimedia Software
-It is very time consuming to produce good multimedia software -It places high demands on the hardware (often upgrades of computers are required) -If you print a webpage it can come out in the wrong format -Multimedia uses lots of power
