The 4 types of Tissue in the Body
Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, Nervous
1 of 14
Epithelial Tissue Description
Covers body surfaces, lines hollow organs, body cavaties and ducts. Also forms glands
2 of 14
Connective Tissue Description
Cells in a matrix of fibres and ground substance (includes Bone)
3 of 14
Muscle Tissue Description
Contractile Cells
4 of 14
Nervous Tissue Description
Conducting nerve cells and supportive neur
5 of 14
Epithelial Tissue Function
Protection, filtration, secretion, absorption and excretion. Allows body to interact with both its internal and external environments
6 of 14
Connective Tissue Function
Protects and supports; binds organs together and stores energy as fat; provides the major transport system of the body
7 of 14
Muscle Tissue Function
Generates physical force required to make body structures move
8 of 14
Nervous Tissue Function
Detects changes inside and outside the body by generating electrical signals called nerve action potentials that activate muscular contractions and glandular secretions
9 of 14
The 3 Germ Layers
Ectoderm, Mesoderm, Endoderm
10 of 14
Ectoderm
Epithelial; nervous. Brain, spinal cord and nerves, epithelium of skin
11 of 14
Mesoderm
Epithelial; connective; most muscle. Bone, blood, heart
12 of 14
Endoderm
Epithelial. Lining of gastrointestinal tract (except oral cavity and anal canal)
