What is the role of the skeleton?
Gives protection for internal organs, site of blood cell production and mineral store, provides attachment for movement.

Protect vital organs and act as sites for muscular attachment, e.g. sternum, ribs, cranium and pelvis.

What are long bones?
Act as levers for movement and sits for blood cell production, e.g. femur, humerus, radius, tibia and phalanges.

Protects vital organs, e.g. vertebrae.

Bear weight, e.g. carpals and tarsals.

Ease joint movement and resist compression e.g. patella.
