What bones make up the pelvis?
2 Innominates which articulate with the sacrum
1 of 38
What joints are involved with the pelvis?
The Pubic Symphysis (amphiarthroses) and Sacroiliac joint (diarthrosis-gliding)
2 of 38
What bones make up the Innominate?
The ilium, pubis, and ischium
3 of 38
Pelvic girdle movements with anterior tilt?
Pubic Symphysis turns down and posterior sacrum up
4 of 38
Pelvic girdle movements with posterior tilt?
Pubic Symphysis turns up and posterior sacrum slightly downwards
5 of 38
Pelvic girdle movements with lateral tilt?
One iliac crest lowered and the other raised
6 of 38
Spine movement with pelvic anterior tilt?
Flexion
7 of 38
Spine movement with pelvic posterior tilt?
Extension
8 of 38
Spine movement with pelvic lateral tilt
Lateral flexion in the same direction
9 of 38
Spine movement with pelvic rotation
Rotation in the same direction
10 of 38
Pelvic movement with hip flexion with both legs together?
Pelvis tilts posterior
11 of 38
Pelvic movement with hip extension with both legs together?
Pelvis tilts anterior
12 of 38
Pelvic movement with lower limb opposition
Pelvis rotates in horizontal plane allowing slight lateral rotation at heel strike
13 of 38
Pelvic movement with movement of one limb
Pelvis tilts laterally, upwards on non-weight bearing and downward on weight bearing side
14 of 38
What are the three components of the shoulder girdle?
The sternum, scapula and clavicle
15 of 38
What are the three joints that make up the shoulder girdle?
Sternoclavicular, acromioclavicular, scapulothoracic
16 of 38
What are the anterior shoulder girdle muscles?
Pectoralis minor, serratus anterior and subclavius
17 of 38
What are the posterior shoulder girdle muscles?
Levator scapulae, rhomboids and trapezius
18 of 38
What is the origin of pectoralis major?
Ribs 3 to 5
19 of 38
What are the insertions of pectoralis major?
Medial border and coracoid process of the scapula
20 of 38
What are the origins of serratus anterior?
Ribs 1-9
21 of 38
What are the insertions of serratus anterior?
Costal surface and the medial border of the scapula
22 of 38
What are the origins of subclavius?
1st rib and costal cartilage
23 of 38
What are the insertions of subclavius?
The clavicle, middle
24 of 38
What are the origins of the levator scapulae?
Transverse processes of C1 and C2 and the posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of C3 and C4
25 of 38
What are the insertions of levator scapulae?
Medial border of the scapula between the superior angle and the smooth area at the base of the scapular spine.
26 of 38
What are the origins of the major rhomboids?
Spinous processes and intervening supraspinous ligaments of T2 to T5.
27 of 38
What are the origins of the minor rhomboids?
Spinous processes C7-T1
28 of 38
What are the insertions of the rhomboids?
Medial border of the scapula by a thin membrane between the base of the spine and inferior angle
29 of 38
What are the origins of the trapezius?
Occipital bone/external occipital protuberance, ligamentum nuchae, tips of spinous processes/supraspinous ligaments C7-T12, a triangular aponeurosis between C6 and T3.
30 of 38
What are the insertions of the trapezius?
Superior fibres- lateral third of clavicle, middle fibres- medial acromial margin and superior lip of crest if scapular spine, inferior fibres- medial end of scapular spine to a tubercle at lateral apex
31 of 38
Actions of pectoralis minor?
Shoulder girdle forwards and downwards
32 of 38
Actions of serratus anterior?
Protraction of scapula and shoulder girdle, lateral rotation of scapula
33 of 38
Actions of subclavius?
Draw clavicle forward, help to stabilise scapuloclavicular joint
34 of 38
Actions of levator scapulae?
Elevate, retract and stabilise scapula. Resisted medial rotation of scapula. With trapezius, bilateral contraction produces neck extension while one side produces lateral flexion.
35 of 38
Actions of rhomboids?
Retract scapula, medial rotation, elevation, key in stabilising scapula during abduction
36 of 38
Actions of trapezius?
Stabilise scapula during upper limb movements. Upper fibres key in upward rotation of scapula
37 of 38
Scapula movement involves what joints?
Acromioclavicular and sternoclavicular joints
