Introduction
Utilitarianism derives from 'utilis' which is the greek word for useful. Hence it is a theory of usefulness. Mill is often termed as a (weak) rule utilitarian.

Rules are easy to follow. Can be universally applied and so easy to judge immoral acts and condemn them-promotes justice. Everyone is equal in all societies. Promotes moral behavior-public accountability for moral decisions. Appeals to common sense.
