What childhood as a social construct mean?
When childhood is socially constructed which means it is defined and created by society.

That the modern idea of childhood shows seperateness - childhood is a clear and distinct life stage from adults.

What does Ruth Benedict (1934) argue?
Children in simpler, non-industrial societies are treated differently from modern counterparts - take responsibility at earlier age, less value placed on children showing obidence and childrens sexual behaviour is viewed differently.

What are some historical differences in childhood?
Aries (1960) argues in the middle ages, childhood did not exist - children weren't seen to have different needs to adults.
