What is the structure of the eath? Starting from the middle.
Inner Core, Outer Core, Mantle, Crust, Lithoshpere.
1 of 16
What is the lithoshpere made of?
It is made of tectonic plates, it is relatively cold and rigid and very thick.
2 of 16
What are convection currents?
They are the movement of tectonic plates.
3 of 16
What does the Earths core transfer?
The Earths core transfers engery, this is why the tempurature of the mantle increases with depth.
4 of 16
Why is the Plate Tectonic theory now widely accepted?
There is now a wide range of evidence supporting the theory, and it has been discussed and tested by many scientist.
5 of 16
Why does magma rise?
The reason for magma rising because it is less dense then the crust.
6 of 16
What does magma cause? And why is there different types of eruptions
Volcanoes, and there are different type of eruptions because there is different types of compostion.
7 of 16
What do geologist find when studying volcanoes?
They can forecast future eruptions and reveal more about the earth structure.
8 of 16
What rock is formed by lava? And what different types of lava cause different types of this rock?
Igneoud rock is formed by lava, iron-rich basalt rock comes from runny lava, sillica- rich rhyolite rock comes from thick lava.
9 of 16
How do you test the hardness of rocks? Name the rocks from the hardest to the weakest.
You rub two materials together, Igenousis the hardest, then metamorphic, then sedimentary.
10 of 16
What is the building materials of these raw materials? Clay, Limestone and Clay, Sand, Iron ore, Aluminion ore
Clay-Brick, Limestone&Clay-Cement,Sand-Glass, Iron ore-Iron, Aluminium Ore-Aluminium.
11 of 16
How are sedimentary rocks made?
Sedimentary rocks are formed by soft sediments being compressed and cemented together.
12 of 16
How are metamorphic rocks made?
Metamorphic rocks are formed when limestone changed heat and pressure.
13 of 16
How are igneous rocks made?
Igneous rocks are formed when magma cools and solidifies.
14 of 16
What is thermal decomposition?
Thermal decomposition is a reactiob where one substance breaks down on heating to give at least two new substances.
15 of 16
Why is reinforced concrete a composite material?
It is a composite material because it contains at least two materials that can still be distinguished.
