Prescription drug
A drug that can be obtained only by means of a physician's prescription.

Social drug
Drugs that people take occasionally for enjoyment, especially when they are spending time socially with other people.

Illegal drug
A drug that is prohibited to produce or use without a prescription.

Drug abuse
Compulsive, excessive, and self-damaging use of habit-forming drugs or substances, leading to addiction or dependence, serious physiological injury and/or psychological harm, or death.

Age restricted drug
A drug that is only available to people of certain ages.

Mood altering drug
A drug that is capable of changing one's emotional state.

Classification of drugs
Drugs are grouped by how they work, their chemical structures and the health conditions they treat (if any).

Class A drugs
Drugs that are considered to be the most harmful and attract the most serious punishments and fines. Examples are heroin, ecstasy, LSD, cocaine and crack cocaine.

Class B drugs
A category of controlled drugs which are less dangerous than Class A drugs, but more so than Class C. Examples are amphetamines and cannabis.

Class C drugs
The least dangerous controlled drugs. Examples are anabolic steroids and tranquilisers.

Tobacco
The leaves of the tobacco plant that have been dried and processed for people to roll up and smoke.

Alcohol
A colorless flammable liquid that in one form is the substance in liquors (as beer, wine, or whiskey) that can make a person drunk.

Caffeine
A chemical substance found in coffee, tea, and cocoa, which affects your brain and body and makes you more active.

Cannabis
A drug, illegal in many countries, that is made from the dried leaves and flowers of the hemp plant.

Solvent
A substance that can dissolve another substance, or in which another substance is dissolved, forming a solution.

Taxation
The process by which the government collects money from people to use for government purposes.

Anti-social activity
Defined in law as behaviour which causes, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to others.

Social consequence
The impact of an event or action on a social environment.

Addiction
The compulsive physiological need for and use of a habit-forming substance.

Rehabilitation
The action of restoring someone to health or normal life through training and therapy after imprisonment, addiction, or illness.

Long-term solution
A solution that will be effective for a long time.

Drink-driving
The crime of driving a vehicle with an excess of alcohol in the blood.

Alcoholic
A person who is obsessed with alcohol and can't control how much they consume.
