Internal Reliability
This i where the data is collected the same way from each participants. It is also how consistent a measuring device is within itself.
1 of 18
External Reliability
How consistent the data findings are over a period of time.
2 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Reliability ' Study Only Completed Once'?
Test Re-Test; Do the study again. This is an issue of External Reliability.
3 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Reliability 'Data Collection Varied Between Participants'?
Standardisation; Participants are tested under the same conditions. This is an issue of Internal Reliability.
4 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Reliability 'Questions Aren't Measuring the Same Variable'?
Split-Half Method; Two forms of the same test are divided by halving all the questions. This is an issue of Internal Reliability.
5 of 18
Internal Validity
Whether the researcher matches the aim.
6 of 18
Population Validity
How accurate data is to the target population.
7 of 18
Ecological Validity
How accurate data is compared to real life.
8 of 18
Concurrent Validity
This involves comparing the new research to an already established one.
9 of 18
Content Validity
This involves examining the content of the test to see if it looks like the thing it claims to measure.
10 of 18
Construct Validity
This refers to whether the test or method can be used to support the underlying theoretical constructs concerning the variable that it is supported to be measuring.
11 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Validity ' Extraneous Variables'
Control; Participants do the same test under the same conditions. This is an issue of Internal Validity.
12 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Validity 'Small or Unrepresentative Sample'?
Gain a Representative Sample; Do a Random / Quota / Stratified sample. This is an issue Population Validity.
13 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Validity 'Task or Situation Unlike Real Life'?
Concurrent Validity; Compare new test with an already established one. This is an issue of Ecological Validity.
14 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Validity 'Demand Characteristics'?
Single-Blind Technique; Participants don't know the aims of the study. This is an issue of Internal Validity.
15 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Validity 'Research Bias'?
Double-Blind Technique; Both participants / investigator conducting experiment don't know the aims of the study. This is an issue of Internal Validity.
16 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Validity 'Social Desirability Bias'?
Anonymity; Participant doesn't give any personal details. This is an issue of Internal Validity.
17 of 18
How do you overcome the Issue of Validity 'Questions Asked May Not Actually Measure the Intended Variable'?
Content Validity or Construct Validity. This is only for questionnaires and interviews. This is also an issue of Internal Validity.
