Clues

  • Hardwood - Contains oils which means it is resistant to decay. Often used to make garden furniture or wood block flooring. (4)
  • Hardwood - Expensive material. Used for making quality, expensive furniture. (3)
  • Hardwood - Medium to heavy weight, very hard & tough. Good strength properties & high abrasion resistance. Can be worked easily, used in furniture, pianos & toys. (5, 4)
  • Hardwood - Quite expensive, used for good quality furniture & hardwood windows. Light brown in colour & more difficult to use compared to pine. (8)
  • Softwood - Relatively cheap, used in the building trade & for furniture. Pale in colour, quite easy to cut and shape & machines well (4)
