Congruence= a match between our actual selves and real selves - leading to high self worth

Key to healthy personality?
Congruence across all 3 selves, but it doesn't have to be 'a perfect fit'. Gaps are useful to have mtoivation to keep improving

Helps to develop the self. May be: conditional (based on behaviour), or unconditional (worth placed on person as a whole)

Can help achieve congruence. Patient communicates feelings and therapist provides acceptance, and helps clarify feelings
