Physics P2 - OCR Higher teir

?
What is speed?
Distance travelled in a set time.
1 of 26
What is acceleration?
Speed increasing.
2 of 26
What are balanced forces?
Do not change the speed of an object.
3 of 26
What are unbalanced forces?
Resultant for make an object speed up or slow down.
4 of 26
What is mass?
Amount of matter, in kg.
5 of 26
What is weight?
Force caused by grativty, in Newtons (N).
6 of 26
What is gravity?
Acceleration.
7 of 26
What is air resistance?
Force caused by 'collisions' with air particles, slows down objects. Bigger surface area = more air resistance. Faster speed = more air resistance.
8 of 26
What is terminal velocity?
Maxium, steady speed. Air resistance and weight balance.
9 of 26
What is meant by thinking distance?
Distance travelled between seeing the hazards and applying the brakes.
10 of 26
What are factors that increase thinking distance?
Alcohol, drugs, tiredness, distractions (eg mobile phones), FASTER speed.
11 of 26
What is braking distance?
Distance travelled whilst braking.
12 of 26
What are factors that can increase braking distance?
Bad brakes, worn tyres, ice, snow, FASTER speed.
13 of 26
How to calculate stopping distance?
Thinking distance + braking distance
14 of 26
What is the rule of speed and braking distance?
Double speed = 4 x braking distance
15 of 26
What is passive safety?
Prevent crashes e.g electric windows, paddle controls.
16 of 26
What is active safety and how does it work?
Reduce injuries in a crash e.g crumple zones, seat belts, air bags. All- increase the collision time, decrease the acceleration, decrease the force. Energy dissipated slowly.
17 of 26
What is momentum and how to calculate it?
Moving objects want to stay moving. Mass x velocity
18 of 26
2 different of fuels?
Petrol, diesal.
19 of 26
What are alternative fuels?
Electric cars, biomass, hybrids.
20 of 26
What does power mean?
How fast you 'use up' your energy.
21 of 26
How does driving style affect affect fuel consumption?
Aggressive acceleration/braking,carrying too much and traffic jams.
22 of 26
What does work done mean?
Equal to energy transferred
23 of 26
What does kinetic energy mean?
Energy of moving objects
24 of 26
What is gravitational potential energy?
Energy objects have because they are above the ground.
25 of 26
What happens to falling objects?
Gravitational potential energy decreases. Kinetic energy increases
