How does sound travel to our ears?
Object vibrates, air vibrates, eardrum vibrates, ossicles vibrate, hairs in cochlea vibrate, message sent to the brain
1 of 36
Describe what frequency is and how it looks on a chart
Pitch of Sound, Shown by length of waves (spaces), far=low, close=high, measured in Hertz (Hz)
2 of 36
Describe what amplitude is and how it looks on a chart
Volume of sound It is shown by the height of the sound waves-big=loud small=quiet Measured in Decibels (dB)
3 of 36
What does the pinna do?
Collects and funnels sound into ear
4 of 36
What do the semi-circular canals do?
Contains wax to trap dust and dirt
5 of 36
What does the eardrum do?
Vibrates when sound strikes
6 of 36
What are ossicles?
Small bones which amplify vibrations
7 of 36
What does the auditory canal do?
Sends out signals when liquid moves tiny hairs
8 of 36
What does the cochlea do?
Changes sound into signals
9 of 36
What do the auditory nerves do?
Carries signals to brain
10 of 36
How do we see things?
When light reflects off of something and into our eyes
11 of 36
Why do we see things first but hear things later?
Light travels faster than sound
12 of 36
What is a light ray?
Straight path taken by light
13 of 36
What is a light beam made up of?
Several light rays
14 of 36
What is a parallel beam
Transfer of energy in the same direction
15 of 36
What is a diverging beam?
Transfer of energy in different directions
16 of 36
What is a converging beam?
Light energy focused on one point (focal point)
17 of 36
How are shadows formed?
When an opaque object blocks out the light
18 of 36
How are umbrae and penumbrae formed?
Umbrae are formed when there are light rays coming from one point but penumbrae are formed when the light rays come from more than one point
19 of 36
What is a normal?
A line that is perpendicular to a surface where light strikes
20 of 36
What is refraction?
When light bends as it travels through glass
21 of 36
What is a medium?
Substances that light travel through
22 of 36
When does light bend towards the normal?
When light goes from a less dense medium to a more dense medium
23 of 36
When does bend away from the normal?
When light travels from a more dense medium to a less dense medium
24 of 36
Why is the image on a pinhole camera inversed?
Because the light rays cross over to flip the object and create a flipped over image
25 of 36
Name a law of reflection
Angle of Incidence=Angle of Reflection
26 of 36
What are the primary colours of light?
Blue, red and green
27 of 36
What are the secondary colours of light?
Cyan, magenta, yellow
28 of 36
What is the scalera
Tough and protective layer
29 of 36
What does the choroid do?
Supplies eye with blood
30 of 36
What does the retina do?
Converts image into electrical signals
31 of 36
What does the optic nerve do?
Takes signals to brain
32 of 36
Where is the cornea and what does it do?
Front of eye, allows light in
33 of 36
What does the iris do?
Controls how much light enters
34 of 36
What does the pupil do?
Allows light in
35 of 36
What does the lens do?
Changes shape to focus image onto retina

Of course, please do feel free to use any of my resources if you wish but I kindly request that you do not show hate as these resources are mine and I have spent my time making them to help me with my tests. I am aware of my spelling mistakes but like I said, I made these resources for myself. However, you all may use them if you would like to but if not, please leave. There is no need for hate.
