What are the negatives of mass tourism?
Only 15% of money earned goes to locals. Muslims offended by dress of female tourists on coast (Mombasa), coral reefs damaged by boats. Safari vehicles causing soil erosion, too many vehicles close to animals changes their behaviour, masai forced off

How have they tried to reduce this impact?
Anti-harassment wardens in safari parks (no nearer than 25m from animals), boat patrols in marine parks, walking & horseback tours encouraged

Describe Eco-tourism on the coast
Lamu small island and town near Somali border. Hard to get to. Discourages inappropriate dress, charges fee to enter and this money goes to repair traditional buildings. Hotels are low rise and built in traditional architecture, not many bars.

It is sustainable, as it doesn't damage the environment and most of the money stays in the country, incomes can help fund schools, wells and health centres
