Why did Romans not accept Greek ideas originally?
When the Greek cities fell to the Romans some Greek doctors became slaves and their ideas weren't seen as trustworthy anymore.

Why did the Romans build the first Asclepion?
A plague led the Romans to build and Asclepion to treat the sick, this survived throughout the Roman period and became a public hospital.

Why were the Roman's practical people?
They needed a strong, healthy army to invade other cities. So they looked more at treatments than causes to illnesses.

How did wounded soldiers get better care than normal civilians?
The state provided them with public doctors and some doctors carried out surgeries e.g. to remove arrows

What did the Romans' notice about what made us ill?
They noticed that exposure to bad smells (miasma), unclean drinking water, sewage, swamps and dirt made you more likely to become ill.

How were they preventitive?
They built aqueducts to carry clean water to the cities. They also built public baths, toilets and sewers to remove waste and prevent disease.
