When theories ignore the differences between genders

Why does gender bias occur frequently?
Most psychologists/participants are male so male behaviour is seen as norm, any other beahviour is seen as abnormal or ignored e.g. concept of PMS whereas male anger is seen as rational

How can androcentrism be countered?
By taking feminist approach, agrees there are real biological sex differences but socially determined stereotypes have more effect on perceived gender differences

What is another way gender bias can be addressed?
By developing theories that emphasise the value of women e.g. research has shown women are better at learning which challenges idea that the male position is always better

What are the implications of gender biased research?
Can create misleading assumptions, does not challenge stereotypes, may be used as scientific justification to deny women opportunities, women are 2x more likely to be diagnosed with depression as male behaviour is seen as norm

Issue with majority of research being carried out by males
Female Ps may feel intimidated, however was also found that male researchers were friendlier to female Ps which may affect how male Ps perform, female concerns may not be investigated due to amount of male researchers

How should gender biased theories e.g. evolutionary theory be revised?
Been suggested that idea of choosy females+competitive males is rooted in Victorian times, has now been recognised that women are as equally competitive e.g. DNA evidence shows its a good adaptive strategy for women to mate with more than one male
