-Risk assessments

-Clear codes of practice
-Appropriately qualified staff
-DBS checks for all staff members
-Availability of safety equipment
-Reporting and recording accidents, incidents and complaints

What does mitigating risks mean ?
reducing the impact of a potential risk

What are examples of mitigating risks?
-Using a hoist to move immobile patient : require sufficient staff trained in use of the equipment to carry out the manoeuvre

-Giving a old frail person a hot drink: ensure the drink is not too hot and use a stable cup

-Infection from accidents & spill
